As the dirt-filled air makes its way towards the exhaust port, it gets passed through the vacuum cleaner bag. These bags are made of porous woven material, which acts as an filter for air. The little holes in the bag are large enough to let air particles pass, but tiny enough for most dirt particles to fit through. Thus, when the air current streams into the vacuum bag, all the air moves on through the bag material, but the debris and dirt collect in the bag.
